Current Students

Eligibility

All students enrolled in good standing and paying fees to the University of South Carolina Columbia campus are eligible to use the Strom Thurmond Wellness & Fitness Center during the semester(s) for which they are enrolled.

Student Membership

Membership entitles students to utilize the Strom Thurmond Wellness & Fitness Center facility. Organized programs & services, such as group exercise classes, intramural sports, sport clubs, outdoor adventure trips, locker/towel rental, equipment rental, etc. are available to members at an additional cost.

University of South Carolina Columbia students who are enrolled during the spring semester and pre-enrolled for the fall semester but are not enrolled in summer school and wish to utilize the facility may do so by paying a fee at the Strom Thurmond Wellness & Fitness Center Business Office. Hours are Monday-Friday, 8:30 am-5:00 pm.

Registration

To gain access to the facility, students are to present their University of South Carolina ID card and enroll their hand in a biometric handkey reader at the Welcome Desk in the Strom Thurmond Wellness & Fitness Center during regular building hours. Student membership will expire at the end of each semester unless enrolled for the upcoming semester. Memberships are non-transferable, non-refundable and membership fees are subject to change.

Facilities and services will be available on a regular basis; however, they may be discontinued for a given period because of directives from the University, major maintenance projects, or unforeseen circumstances. Memberships are not prorated because of these events.


Current & Retired Faculty & Staff

Eligibility

All permanent full-time faculty and staff as well as retired faculty and staff of the University of South Carolina system are eligible to purchase a membership to the Strom Thurmond Wellness & Fitness Center. A faculty or staff member taking a class at the University of South Carolina without paying fees shall be classified as a faculty/staff member and not as a student when purchasing a membership.

Faculty, Staff and Retiree Membership

Faculty, Staff and Retiree Membership entitles user to utilize the Strom Thurmond Wellness & Fitness Center facility. Currently, there are four types of memberships:  annual, early bird, 30-day trial and individual use. Please see the Strom Thurmond Wellness and Fitness Center fee schedule for more information regarding the regular annual and early bird memberships.

The 30-day trial gratis membership is available to new permanent full-time faculty & staff. To request a 30-day trial membership, email Kim Dozier.

On an individual use basis, non-member faculty/staff may present their University of South Carolina-Columbia CarolinaCard and pay the guest fee of $5 (five dollars) for use of the facility, but cannot sponsor a guest.

Organized programs & services, such as group exercise classes, intramural sports, sport clubs, outdoor adventure trips, locker/towel rental, equipment rental, etc. are available to members at an additional cost.

Registration

All permanent full-time faculty & staff who would like to pay the fee or choose the payroll deduction option may register at the Strom Thurmond Wellness & Fitness Center Business office Monday-Friday, 8:30 am-5:00 pm. Employment status will be verified. Membership will be cancelled upon separation from University service.

Payment Options

The membership year begins when fees are paid. Membership fees may be paid by cash, check made payable to University of South Carolina, CarolinaCard, or payroll deduction. Memberships are non-transferable, non-refundable and membership fees are subject to change.

Spouse of Students, Faculty & Staff – University of South Carolina – Columbia

Eligibility

Any current member (a University of South Carolina – Columbia student who is enrolled in good standing or a University of South Carolina Columbia permanent full-time faculty or staff member paying the appropriate fee) of the Strom Thurmond Wellness & Fitness Center can sponsor their spouse. The spouse must present a University of South Carolina Spouse ID card and pay the fee. The current member must accompany the prospective spouse to purchase the membership.

Spouse Membership

Spouse Membership entitles user to utilize the Strom Thurmond Wellness & Fitness Center facility. Organized programs & services, such as group exercise classes, intramural sports, sport clubs, outdoor adventure trips, locker/towel rental, equipment rental, etc. are available to members at an additional cost.

Payment Options

Membership fees for a spouse can be found in the Strom Thurmond Wellness & Fitness Center fee schedule. Fees may be paid by cash, CarolinaCard or check made payable to University of South Carolina or via payroll deduction with the employee.

Registration

A spouse who would like to pay the fee or choose the payroll deduction from the University employee option may register at the Strom Thurmond Wellness & Fitness Center Business Office Monday-Friday, 8:30 am-5:00 pm. Employment status will be verified. The sponsor of the membership MUST be present during the time of registration. Membership will be cancelled once the student, faculty or staff member status has changed. Memberships are non-transferable, non-refundable and membership fees are subject to change.
