Want to go Green and burn calories? Now you can!
In Summer 2010, the Strom Thurmond Wellness and Fitness Center retrofitted 11 of their Precor Ellipticals with the Re-Rev system.
As you work out on one of the ellipticals, you are producing kinetic energy, the energy of motion. This energy is then displaced as heat. ReRev collects this heat and converts it to direct current (DC). The direct current propagates down the wiring track to the ReRev Converter, where it is then converted to alternating current (AC, the type of current typically used in homes and businesses). Lastly, the converter sends the AC back to The Strom’s electrical grid.
In essence, the faster you pedal and the higher the resistance level on the elliptical, the more energy you are putting into motion and the more heat you are producing. In return, you are putting more energy back into the grid!
How does this measure up?
An average 30 minute workout can produce up to 50 watt hours. That’s enough to power your laptop for 30 minutes! And the best news is that it is clean, carbon free energy!
Where are these ellipticals located?
The 11 ellipticals retrofitted with the ReRev system are located on the cardio deck of the Strom Thurmond Wellness and Fitness Center
